: I have never seen catbirds in the numbers that grace our Hoechoka Hammock this year. An evening "patrol" flushed 50-75 the other night. The mockingbirds are almost suicidal because of the common attraction to the Hamelia bushes.

: Now a question: outside of a bird bath, or dripping water, has anyone discovered a sure fire way to attract catbirds and brown thrashers. Seeds and bugmeal seem to be no attraction at all.

Hi Paul.
Catbirds eat insects and fruit (berries) and Thrashers eat insects and worms. I have seen in my yard that Thrashers will eat some seeds but not often. I've got a Mockingbird eating millet out of a dish in my yard. He might be the same one that I saw eating off my suet feeder.
