I have never seen catbirds in the numbers that grace our Hoechoka Hammock this year. An evening "patrol" flushed 50-75 the other night. The mockingbirds are almost suicidal because of the common attraction to the Hamelia bushes.
Now a question: outside of a bird bath, or dripping water, has anyone discovered a sure fire way to attract catbirds and brown thrashers. Seeds and bugmeal seem to be no attraction at all.
