An overnight canoe trip would be the only way that you can see the birds unless you charter a fishing boat. You cannot rent a boat and go into Florida Bay, only the back bay.

I think that the idea that these birds were from Hialeah Race Track was pure speculation with zero evidence for them being from there. It is clear by the plumage of these birds, that they are from somewhere besides Hialeah Race Track. The Hialeah Race Track birds are very washed out and don't look as clean as the birds that have been in Snake Bight, Sandy Key, Lake Ingraham and else where in Florida Bay and the Florida keys. There was a bird in Snake Bight a few years ago, that was banded from the population in the Yucatan Peninsula. It is possible that the birds in the Everglades have come from there. There are about 40,000 birds in the Bahamas so they may come from there as well. Cuba has fairly large numbers of them too. There used to be many more Flamingos in Florida Bay many years ago, Audubon looked for them, I am not sure if he saw them though.

The birds have been in the very first part of Lake Ingraham, I saw them yesterday. There was a period of three days or so when they were not seen!! Perhaps they were over on Sandy Key which is a pretty far paddle or even for a boat ride.

I have included a photo from the birds seen yesterday, there were only 16-birds when previously there were 19-birds. I bet the other birds may be over on Sandy Key.
