Back asking ago as the 1910's my grandfather saw Flamingos out near Cape Sable as did his family. Truth being stranger than fiction spoonbills were not seen in the same areas as the "flamingo" which were seen all throughout the Florida bay and Biscayne Bay flats back then. Never in huge numbers but, then as now, they had been seen from what is now Card Sound to Cape Sable.... And in "Flamingo" in what is now the Everglades National Park - Grandad said that it was named for the birds that were near by.....
