I went to Wakodahatchee this morning and observed TWO adult Neotropic Cormorants (NECO). I observed them along with Mark Berney, Tom Smith, Paul Leader, and several other birders and photographers.

The adult that Larry Manfredi photographed is NOT the adult we initially saw, which was clearly a textbook-looking bird. The white along the gular sac was striking and well-defined.

That bird left before Judd Patterson, Carlos Sanchez, and Scott Scheinhaus arrived. Mark B. walked off to see if he could relocate it. The bird that stayed is the one Larry M. photographed. The immature bird also photographed by Larry and others was next to it.

The immature bird is interesting. I survey Double-crested Cormorants (DCCO) every month and have seen them in all stages of development. This particular bird caught my attention immediately. However, I'm not sure if it is a NECO. I believe it is too early to tell. The other juveniles and immature all (at least the ones I saw) fit the bill for DCCO.

I hope we can continue to get feedback from this very interesting find. Good luck.

-RJ
