A very important question is whether this bird is a male or female. All of the Red-legged Honeycreepers spotted in South Florida in recent years have been males, and for this reason the sightings haven't been accepted, as the males are sometimes kept as caged birds here. This, despite the fact that some of the sightings were at spots unlikely to harbor escapes, such as Royal Palm in ENP (1st park record), Boca Chita Key, and (as I recall) Cape Florida.
