Sadly, shortly after I sent my post on the TAS board, there was a bit of a major goof-up (that's putting it nicely). The staff members that were handling the bird weren't holding it firmly enough, and it escaped their grasp and flew off, and the door happened to be opened at that very moment. The bird escaped back into the wild! So if anyone spots a MALE red-legged honeycreeper in the Coconut Grove/Vizcaya area, that could be it. D'oh!!!!!

Still wonder if a wild vagrant, or a captive bird. If it was a wild bird, it's back where it belongs anyway.
