Yesterday a Brown-crested Flycatcher was seen and heard vocalizing near the bathrooms. While observing two Cooper's Hawk mixed into a kettle of Vultures another kettle of 300+ Chimney Swifts came into view. An amazing sight that got even better when a Merlin engaged a swift in an aerial display that ended with the Merlin coming up short. A Pine Warbler was seen near the lighthouse, first Pine we see at the park! Anyone else seen Pine Warbler at the park before?

Today the raptor show was awesome with many Accipiters cruising overhead. The best bird of prey by far was a juvenile Mississippi Kite! Northern Harrier, American Kestrel and Sharp-shinned Hawks made up the bulk of the raptors but others were around in smaller numbers including a single dark morph Swainson's Hawk. The Bananaquit was not seen today despite looking in many flowering coconut trees as well as any nectar producing plants. A few Yellow-rumped Warblers were new in the hammock today, a sign of what's to come. Tree Swallows also were making it feel like winter. Great Blue Herons were migrating south in groups of 4-5 birds throughout the day. Migration rocks people!

Nature is Awesome
