Sparrow migration is a bit strange in Miami-Dade, and I am not entirely sure sparrows simply drift back northwards with mild weather.
There seems to be a passage of Lincoln's, Clay-colored, and White-crowned Sparrows in November and then again in March. Interestingly, there seems to be a similar passage of Clay-colored Sparrows in the Bahamas (November and March). Most of the same species that occur here also winter in small numbers in the Yucatan Peninsula.
The C-357 Sparrow Fields seem to have really changed the reality of sparrows in south Florida with birds present there in late February-March but not so much during December-January (perhaps). It used to be that we would see sparrows only in November, and then they would 'disappear' for the rest of winter -- not counting the numerous Savannah and Grasshopper Sparrows.
It is all very interesting. I don't know what is going on exactly with the less common species.
Carlos
