At about 6:30 in the morning, Andy Bankert of Melbourne County, David Simpson, two other young birders, and I walked the same path from Chapman Fields Park in the Deering area. After a couple minutes of walking to the first opening along the path where Dee and David had MACU last weekend. There were tons of Cattle Egrets flying around. After playing our tapes a couple times, we finally had a cuckoo call. A year bird for me, and a lifer for the two other birders from out-of-state. We got the cuckoo to call a couple more times, and everytime it called, it managed to move a little bit closer to where we were standing. After the fourth time it had called, it was within about 150 feet from us, but still almost invisible. After a little bit longer, we decided to move on. We did not see the bird, but under ABA, we are able to count birds heard only on our lists. So, the other two birders had their life bird. Susan, is it possible that maybe you heard our tape, since I think you were in the same area, and it seems that "the path" you mentioned could be the one we were walking?
