Trey and I went to the C-357 early Saturday in search of sparrows. Brian arrived before we even got out of the car. In short, a very uneventful morning. A few Savannahs, couple of Grasshoppers, and one each Swamp and Lincoln's Sparrows, and the last two weren't even very cooperative. We heard a few Marsh Wrens, but only saw one briefly. No rails seen or heard, very few raptors, no fly-by anythings. We walked around the entire cell.
On the way home, Trey and I stopped by Cutler Wetlands and found vere few ducks, mostly tucked along the edges.
Later that afternoon, I scanned the bay from the canoe lauch on Old Cutler and 173 St. and saw nothing interesting. With no cold front in the foreseeable future into Florida, there's little in the way of catalyst to send northern birds out way. The feeble front about a week ago is what probably brought a few birds our way, but these may have headed back north. Case in point, the White-winged Scoter Trey saw last week was flying NORTH. Temps in the 80's, no way says the scoter. Time to head north to see good birds this time of year.
