Hadn't birded either one in a while so headed south this morning. Spent about an hour at each place. The hammock at Castellow was very quiet. Best birding was up front by the parking even through there were people and kids which seemed to have camped. The feeders were empty. The full list:

Black Vulture
Turkey Vulture
Cooper's Hawk
White-winged Dove
Mourning Dove
Collared Dove
Ruby-throated Hummingbird (many)
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Loggerhead Shrike
Blue Jay
House Wren
BG Gnatcatcher
Mockingbird
Starling
Palm Warbler
Prairie Warbler
BT Blue Warbler (2 males)
Cardinal
Red-winged Blackbird
Boat-tailed Grackle
Common Grackle

Afterwards headed to Cutler Wetlands. The usual birds were there but hadn't birded in a marshy area in a while so cool to see some of these birds again.

Pied-billed Grebe
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Snowy Egret
Little Blue Heron
Tricolored Heron
Cattle Egret
Glossy Ibis
White Ibis
Mottled Duck
Blue-winged Teal
Turkey Vulture
Black Vulture
N. Harrier
Red-shouldered Hawk
Kestrel
Moorhen
Coot
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Long-billed Dowitcher (at least the ones that called)
Wilson's Snipe
Black-necked Stilt
Laughing Gull
Collared Dove
Loggerhead Shrike
Boat-tailed Grackle
Red-winged Blackbird
House Sparrow

Dramatic moment: As I was focusing on both yellowlegs, snipes and ibises on the S.E. corner of the wetland, saw something zooming in fast towards the birds through the corner of my eye. A Red-shouldered Hawk (pale Florida race) made a surprise attack and successfully caught one of the yellowlegs or snipes. The other birds just stood there staring a few feet away while the hawk ate, some calling and some silent. Either they were in shock or just new that since the hawk was successful they had no reason to fear.
