I can't seem to get this one straight - a medium-sized brownish raptor keeps hanging out in my suburban neighborhood. It vocalizes like a Coopers Hawk. It acts like a Coop, gliding low and jumping around in trees. Everything says Coop except a bright white circular patch on the rump, above the tail. The only bird with white on the rump that is described in my guides is the N. Harrier - but I am familiar with these, and the white on them is much broader across the top of the tail. This bird does not fly or act at all like the Marsh hawks I am familiar with. The white patch is only obvious when the bird flies low away from view.
Can you experts help??
On a less confused note, a gorgeous Red-tailed Hawk with belly band was in Boca this morning, near Sugar Sand park.
