The White-winged and Yellow-chevoned Parakeets have slightly different calls. The distinction escapes me at the moment since I have not been in Miami for all too long, and won't be back until the school semester ends. But yes, the calls are different enough that one can confidently distinguish the species.

In the Pinecrest area, the Yellow-chevroned Parakeet is probably what you are hearing and seeing. Anywhere north of downtown Miami, and you will be having more White-winged Parakeets than Yellow-chevroneds. At my home in Miami Shores, it is about a 9:1 WW to YC ratio. In your area, you may have both. I know that White-wingeds are still holding strong around I-95 just NW of the actual city of Miami.

Also, and this is just based on personal observations and more experience with White-winged Parakeets, that Yellow-chevroneds occur almost exclusively in heavily vegetated suburbs, while White-wingeds are more often found in more open areas. White-wingeds, for instance, are found in areas that host only a few tall trees and Canary Date Palms. Just observations, but I wonder if anyone else has noticed this in Brotogeris or any psittacids in South Florida?
