where to find a Snail Kite

My brother,a birder since childhood in Toronto,now over 80 and from Houston,is coming tomorrow to visit us in S. Miami. He expressed particular interest in seeing a Snail Kite. I remember that they used to hang out along the Tamiami Trail near Shark Valley. Is that the best place to go this time of year? Is early morning best? We'll also make the trip through Everglades Park to Flamingo. What interesting birds might we see along the way? I've recently moved back to Miami and have not made that trip in 30 years. Any other suggestions?
