Hi All,
Since posting on 4/25, Yet Another Birder coming to South Florida, I have received a bunch of very helpful information from many of you, thanks so very much!!!
Due to a near death and then death in the family I was postponed in coming down, but am now finally coming late this week. It's really exciting because birding in South Florida for the first time is really and truly special!
I'll be in Tampa Thursday afternoon and evening/Friday morning, and then Friday work my way across the state to try for the Anis in Ft. Lauderdale early Friday evening. Then will try again for the Anis Saturday morning if I miss them Friday, and then will bird Saturday and Sunday in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami/Key Largo area, and maybe more.
Targets are primarily (not in order of importance):
Fulvous Whistling-Duck
Magnificent Frigatebird
White-tailed Kite
Snail Kite
Short-tailed Hawk
White-crowned Pigeon
Mangrove Cuckoo
Smooth-billed Ani
Burrowing Owl
Black-whiskered Vireo
Cave Swallow
Shiny Cowbird
Bronzed Cowbird (winter only, one reported recently?)
Any Available West Indian Vagrants
Then:
Monk Parakeet
White-winged Parakeet
Red-whiskered Bulbul
Common Myna
Spot-breasted Oriole
And maybe wishing half-heartedly for more time:
Greater Flamingo
Roseate Tern
Antillean Nighthawk
So if anyone has any great sighting information they want to share with an out-of-towner this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, please give a real-time, or anytime, call to me at 404-229-3313.
Good birding All and thanks again!
Mark
