Now there is one reported at Everglades City, it was seen today 04/10. We called the visitors center to inquire about the bird and the ranger told me that he did see the bird but he is no expert when it comes to birds. He described the bird as being very similar to White-eyed but with more even light yellow coloration through out the bird. He did not comment on bill size, behavior, or sound. Overall my impression is that someone should check it out.

Here is the original post by the observer:

I finally have posting authorization and am happy to report that I had excellent views of a thick-billed vireo yesterday in the only tree without leaves at the parking lot for the visitor center at Everglades City. All the classic field marks were there, including the yellow line on the face, the belly was yellow all over and the bill was massive. The song was clear and much more emphatic than the other vireos I've heard. I've seen a lot of vireos in my "home" area of VA and MD, and I have no doubt that this bird resembled none of them. The song alone was very clearly different than the other Vireos.

The song first grabbed my attention, and I was lucky that the bird moved from the wooded area north of the parking lot to the northernmost tree adjacent to the parking lot. As that tree is almost leafless, I was afforded clear and close views of the bird. I am very skeptical about my identifications, but I am sure of this one. The bird flew of to the south after about one minute.

I did not get any photos as I preferred to get better looks at the bird than to race to my car for my camera, when I knew the bird would not stay forever in such a close location.

Cheers to all and happy birding!
