I've always maintained that they should control some of the hardwoods that occur along the road swale in that area of ENP because it creates a corridor of trees that block the view of the Everglades. I'd like to see them take a hydro-axe (like they used at Flamingo to control the Brazilian pepper) and clear openings for scenic vistas, rather than wholesale removal. There are lots of birds that use those roadside trees, but they should take tourists into consideration too. If it wasn't for the disturbed road swale those trees wouldn't be there in the first place.

The prescribed burn along there was supposed to help control hardwoods, but it seemed odd that they chose to conduct it during tourist season. Oh well, whatever works.

I've seen mockingbirds, catbirds, red-bellied woodpeckers, blue jays, and blue-headed vireos eating the fruits of Randia, so one or more of them could be the culprit. Hairstreaks like to nectar on the flowers as well.

Remind me where Hoechoka Hammock is.
