Curbing Parakeet Populations

I just read an article in the Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences magazine about an ongoing project to control monk parakeet populations. The birds have been causing power outages by building nests atop power substations and utility equipment, so Florida Power & Light partnered with the University of Florida IFAS to come up with a solution. In March 2006, researchers installed feeders near nests that were causing big problems for FPL, and the feed was impregnated with DiazaCon, an avian contraceptive. At 10 sites during the 2-year study, the DiazaCon reduced nestlings by 68%.

I wonder if native birds are eating this stuff too?
