The recent rainfall and hard winds have severely interrupted the nesting in our north Broward area of 24 acres. The cardinals have lost their brood, the red-bellied woodpecker nest that we had hopes for was washed out, and there is only one baby dove when normally we see 20-25 at our feeders. The canals are up about 2 1/2 feet and our measured rain for the seven day period was 18 inches. The screech owls have disappeared, and even the starlings seemed to have been hit hard. Only a few babies about. Mockingbirds were fledged about 30 days past and we had about 10 from three separate nest sites. Paired brown thrashers, killdeer, catbirds, red-winged are all about but there are no fledglings at all. It is turning out to be a very unproductive spring.
