The picture shows a catbird that was guarding its nest at Corkscrew Swamp. We watched the bird for about twenty minutes. The nest was directly overhead. The Florida Breeding Bird Atlas needs to be revised. Gray Catbirds do breed in south Florida. I saw one. And we hope for some in our area when the weather conditions are not so tempetuous. As for our six years of records (at our small hammock), no catbirds yet. Thank you for the reference--I am aware of it. Field experience sometimes "adds" to the experts writings. Can you remember when the Great White Heron was a separate bird, now it is a morph. And when the Florida Gallinule was the name for what we now call the moorhen?
