The Everglades Agricultural Area has existed for only a few decades, but it can be safely assumed that shorebirds have been migrating through Florida for millenia. The shorebirds that we see in agricultural fields are simply that; the ones we can see. Surely shorebirds continue to use natural areas such as sawgrass marsh; it's just more difficult for us to observe them. When the EAA is converted back to marsh, I'm confident that migrating shorebirds will be able to find suitable habitat there.
