I took this weak photo back in December at Myakka State Park and just now got around to studying it. Apparently it is a King Rail, a "near threatened" species, very similar to a Clapper Rail. Some say they are the same species, but Clapper Rails might not have the strong blacks, and might prefer salt/brakish water, and Myakka is far inland, east of Fort Myers.
I checked ebird.com and see people sometimes see these in Dade but not in Broward. I know they are shy, but I wonder if anyone knows a reasonably reliable place to find them.
