Check to see what species they are. Within the last month or so, I have witnessed an irruption of Four-spotted Pennants (Bracgymesia gravida) almost everywhere where there is still water, especially out at STA-5 in Hendry County. Supposedly, these irruptions of odes occur to take advantage of ample food supplies. In the case of the Four-spotteds out at STA-5, there was a similar irruption of some sort of midge (I think) that was downright annoying to humans given their large numbers. The Four-spotted Pennants were also out in phenomenal numbers preying on the midges. . . .
