When you go back, (note the operative word here is "when"), I suggest that you bring or locate some additional props such as pine tree limb, detritus from the local area, etc. When such sticks are placed as vertical props, or slightly off vertical the buntings will fly to the perch and not directly to the ground. Thus giving a variety of positions, angles, etc. The log pictured in your photos was placed on the left side several years back and is now "standard". A great set up. But on the right side, feel free to set up your own "one-time-only" props. I suggest that this gives a good variety to your displays. Also note next time you go that there are some long saw-palmetto branches that protrude out into the display area on the left and right. These are groomed for photographic usage. The picture shows one such example.

Mrazek Pond in the Everglades Park had such a practice evidenced. As far back as 1957 I would see sticks and limbs appear overnight along the shore line but firmly embedded in the mud. Photographers would simply set up there shoot as if they were in a studio. Snowy egrets loved the perches. One photographer told me he always travels with waders in his trunk to facilitate the practice of wading into the water to plant the prop. I fully expected one day to see a Burma Shave sign!
