A good friend is recovering from shoulder surgery, so he cannot fish or(pardon the expression) go duck hunting for another 2 months. He had expressed an interest in seeing a painted bunting, which, despite having grown up here, he'd never seen. Accordingly we both played hookey today and at 7 30 found ourselves at the feeder at Okeeheelee anticipating the show, previously advertised here.We were not disappointed, and I thank everyone who posted the info, location etc-it was, as the Brits say, spot on. Given that we had driven up from south Dade and that I had never been to Green Cay or Okeeheelee, we drove over there for the view, a nice walk and some interesting conversation with some photographers, bird watchers, and volunteers. I've posted the best of my photos from today on my flickr site(click on the "Okeeheelee/green cay" set)

I offer this photo from a sequence with the green heron to see if any herp expert out there can identify the frog --in keeping with the recent "controversy" here about the bald eagle's prey..
