Hi everyone,
Yesterday we went to AD Barnes to check out what has been going on. The first thing we noticed was the lack of birds, we started our walk at the nature center. When we got out of our car and the only thing we heard was a lonely Blue-gray Gnatcatcher followed by a Cooper's call in the distance. We proceeded to walk the trail were had 2 Palm Warbler and nothing else till we got to the elevated boardwalk area. There we heard another Palm and possibly a A. Redstart. We started to walk back when we encountered two Blue Jay's one was eating an acorn, almost immediately after starting to walk again we spotted a Cooper's. The COHA kept flying and perching a little distance ahead of us I guess it did not want it's photograph taken. We followed the trail till we got back to the fountain where the infamous Alfac Duck was chilling. After checking him out we headed back to the pineland area that has been so slow since they removed alot of the trees including the ones in the small island directly behind the parking area. We once used to see lots of Cardinal and some PABU here but now it is desolate. We did manage to find some more Palm Warbler's and a single Mockingbird. As we walked back to the car we finally got a chance to photograph some Cooper's as two flew over us giving me a chance to practice speed shooting. We walked up on a perched COHA in a tree in front of the Nature Center's building that posed quite nicely.
Off to the lake before the sun goes down I said to Mariel, there was lot's of people at the park today celebrating life which was nice to see. Maybe a reason for the lack of birds around the park? At the lake we saw some of the usual suspects including a real cool Green Heron as the sun was setting that allowed for some good photos opts. We saw a pile of feathers that seem to belong to a Muscovy or a W. Ibis, we could not tell cause it was shredded. Maybe the problem CATS or maybe not we will never know. We then decided to leave as it was getting rather dark. All in all at least we got away for a little while from the everyday chores.
This morning after dropping Mariel at work I headed to Malwart to pick up something and ran into a small flock of Monk Parakeet which allowed me to shoot some photos which was quite nice. Headed back to Mariel's job and checked out my usual morning birding spot. Not much to see there but had a couple of species.
