First things first.
Thank you Kurt for creating a haven for wildlife in your yard.Every little native plant counts-especially when so many others are intent on destroying what little flora is left in our area.
I understand your frustrations,and even your thought that the hawks would be better off gone, but I think Larry is correct that if you let things settle themselves you will end up with a new population of wildlife in your yard.
It is after all a haven.
I try to not encourage the wrong birds at my feeders by utilizing squirrel proof feeders (the wire cages) and only a few open feeders for the jays. I do suffer with a few doves but not too many and the Red Shoulder that winters in the yard flushes them regularly.
I also find that it is a must to buy wildbird seed with no corn-seems like the birds only throw the corn to the ground and then the doves move in.
If the doves move out, hopefully the Coopers will follow.
