After a great morning at Barnes yesterday, I came home and attacked the yard in preparation for winter yardbirds
Unfortunately the yard attacked back.
So this morning when I woke up bright and early to head out for the Matheson walk, I realized that Cro Magnon birding posture was not going to be a plus-especially since even the ovenbirds are in the trees !
Time for plan B- Boomer birding!!
So I assembled the requisite camp chair, stopped for a cafe con leche and cuban toast and headed down to the Annnex to recline in the chair, with binoculars and breakfast while waiting for the birds.
My target bird was the yellow breasted chat and I believe I heard one calling about five minutes after arrival, but was not able to find it.
I did however find ever other shade of yellow bird imaginable, with a bit of blue and orange thrown in.
I saw:

A plethora of Prothontarys
Plenty of Parulas
Yards of Yellowstarts
A peek at a Prairie
A bevy of Baltimore orioles
A glance at a Great Crested Flycatcher
Yellow throated warbler
Chipping Common Yellowthroats
Black throated blue (pair)
Blue gray Gnatcatcher
Oodles of Ovenbirds
A Merlin menacing the warblers
Osprey overhead
Blue herons huddling on the road
Common Ground Doves
Chastising Cardinals
Calling White eyed vireo
Chatting Chat
Mocking Mockers

All seen from a vantage point in front of the fruiting fig tree.

On the way back I ran into Steve S studiously surveying the hunting Harriers ( and filming them )at Lucky Hammock.
After he left I watched them for a while as they landed in the tallest tree at the southern end of the field. The youngster (presumably) was having a great time practicing reverse touch and go landings in the tree ( flying into the wind and drifting back to touch a branch, then repeat).
Had several perched red Shoulders on the way home as well as a Harrier crossing the road at 360 st and 192 ave.
