Come on, like everybody doesn't know who I am.

First, the made-up data is information I got off the bird board.

Second, it may be a weak case only because of the interpretation of the data. I did NOT do a statitical analysis, so perhaps my use of the word "average" was flawed.

Third, here's a comparison who's only weekness is the small sample size:

NAMC 2006, S. Dade 14 Warbler sp.
NAMC 2007, S. Dade 6 Warbler sp.

NAMC 2006, N. Dade 14 Warbler sp.
(No report for 2007)

Toe @ Barnes 9/8/2006 11 Warbler sp.
Toe @ Barnes 9/10/2007 6 Warbler sp.

NAMC 2006, ENP 10 Warbler sp.
NAMC 2007, ENP 10 WArbler sp.
(this is the one referred to above)

So you see, on or about the date of the 2006 NAMC the typical number of warblers seen at one location was 11-14(two 14 sites skewed this upward). The typical day leading up to and on the 2007 NAMC is 6-8. This is not made up. What does it mean? I don't know!

What is not captured is the low numbers of individual of each species we seem to be getting. Few species, and usually only a few of each warbler species. What happened to the days of 40-50 Redstarts, or hundreds of BTB's?

One last point: last year we even had a Northern Wheatear the week of the NAMC. Where's our wheatear this year? Try to explain that!

Alas, I am not a pessimist, and I did not mean to lessen anyone's interest in local birding. I for one will continue head-on looking for better days. I know we will have gangbuster days between now and mid-October. Alas, I will whine no more. I hope.

Good birding to all.

Rock Jetty
