The nighthawks were almost assuredly Common, which are migrating south at this time. Lesser Nighthawks don't arrive in south Florida until November or December, and even then are only local in occurance. Locations where they are often seen during winter include Lucky Hammock, just outside Everglades National Park, Eco Pond and the Flamingo campground in Everglades National Park, and Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Palm Beach County.
