I don't know if this is related to what was reported by David Simpson and Scott, but I found three dead Greater Shearwaters yesterday on the beach at South Hutchinson Island, Jensen Beach. Interestingly, I also saw two live Greaters floating just offshore in the surf, riding three-foot breakers that tossed them around rather violently. At first, I thought these live Shearwaters must be moribund, but they were actively feeding on small fish in the surf, so I guess they were OK. I have never seen these birds on Hutchinson before. Has anyone seen else seen Greater Shearwaters behaving this way?
