On Sunday, February 11, 2001, a sub-adult Glaucous Gull was reported by Juan Villamil and Kevin Sarsfield at the Pompano Landfill, Broward County, at Sample Rd. and Powerline Rd. The bird was seen from the SE? corner of an office building parking lot on Sample Rd. Look for a construction trailer on the opposite side of the fence while standing in the parking lot. Behind it is a large pile of fill. The bird is mostly white with a little bit of tan steaking on the head, probably a 1st winter bird. It was on the ground on the back side(north?) of the rock pile in the company of Lesser and Great-blacked Black, Herring, Ringed-billed and Laughing Gulls for excellent comparisons as to color and size. The all white look really stands out. Forgive me for sketchy details on the location but I have birded the rockpits around the landfill but do not have a map as I write this. Powerline Rd. is west of I-95. Go west from the Sample Road exit and look for an office building on Sample Rd. at the intersection of Powerline Rd. Good luck! Please post better directions if you see the bird. You can call me on my cell at 305-216-2626 or home 305-871-5009 with an update. My e-mail address is at work. I will probably look for the gull myself on Tuesday morning.
