A fascinating story of a bird --- dare I say it? --- with essentially no chance of natural vagrancy. (A report of a flock of White-winged Crossbills in central Florida during November 2006 seemed to have pertained to House Finches -- the plumage described by the original observer did not match that of any age or sex of White-winged Crossbill).
ENP should do a stable isotope analysis of a feather, which will give an idea of where the bird was when it grew the feather -- but not how it got to Florida.
But I like the killed-by-a-vehicle-then- transported-in-the-grille-for-hundreds-of-miles theory. Makes sense to me.
