Raul: As you say -- very unusual. A Hairy Woodpecker was seen infrequently in the "Annex" several years ago. It seemed slightly smaller and darker ("muddier") than those seen farther north. Mickey Wheeler was with me for one of the sightings and described the historical ENP pinelands Hairy Woodpeckers as looking the same. I have also seen Hairy Woodpecker in Corkscrew Swamp and in Six-Mile Cypress Slough (Ft. Myers).
