I have never actually sighted a bear along Research Road, but I have found evidence of their presence several times. About a year ago, I found fresh bear scat on the road, just east of the research buildings. It was full of saw palmetto seeds, so I knew it wasn't panther scat, and there's nothing else out there large enough to make a pile that big.
Was the bear you saw full grown?
