That's true. Ours aren't the big 400-lb bruisers you might find up in Michigan or Maine.
It's good that you reported your sighting to a ranger, as bears are fairly rare in that area. South Florida black bears are far more likely to be found farther west, such as in the Fakahatchee Strand. They have also been seen along the Loop Road, and I heard one report of one being seen from the observation tower at Shark Valley.
