My uncle and I had planned to go up to Clewiston today to check out a boat. When I heard about the Ruff, I decided to make a detour to Roth Sod. We arrived at the area where it was seen yesterday early in the morning to find the muddy field pretty empty. I ended up driving around this entire cell and scoping from several places without much luck. We had to be in Clewiston at a certain time to meet the guy selling the boat, so I couldn't spend too much time looking for the bird. On the way out I stopped at the first flooded field when you turn from 880 to Roth Sod Road, which had a large number of shorebirds, mostly yellowlegs. Here I spotted 8 Wilson's Phalaropes in the same scope view. Pretty bizarre when they all decided to do the spinning thing at the same time. I would have traded all 8 for the ruff. Oh well, I saw more than I would have seen if I hadn't tried. With so little time, and only one person scoping, it's entirely possible the Ruff was there. We have to keep trying I guess. Good luck.
