If it makes you feel any better, I had to move my bird feeder last fall because this mockingbird would not let any bird near it. And I so enjoyed watching the birds while we ate dinner.
As an owner of 3 hookbills ( parrots and a "conure"), I can tell you that birds get fixated or scared of certain objects, such as hats, aluminum foil, jewelry, even certain patterened clothing.
