Mockingbirds took to attacking my dog when the babies from their first nest (they've got a 2nd nest now) fledged and took up temporary residence in my backyard. They would swoop down and grab Jake's tail. Jake was not thrilled with this.
My daughter's friend tells us of a mockingbird that swooped down and actually plucked a cigarette from his hand and carried it off. Another time it tried to snatch his headphones off his head, but was foiled by the cord. We don't know if it had a nest nearby or was just feeling a bit klepto.
