I'm coming to south Florida in early May in search of a few target birds and would appreciate some local advice-
- Flamingos - is it worthwhile trying for these at Snake Bight in May? (I know winter would be better) Any benefit of trying to hire a boat to look for them in Florida Bay?
- Spot-breasted Oriole - would they still be singing in early May? (I'm collecting a nice list of locations where they've been reported on the TAS Bird Board of late). Additional locations to suggest?
- Short-eared Owl - any suggested sites?
- (Cuban) Yellow Warbler and Mangrove Cuckoo - are there any locations that are better than others for these?
- Purple Swamphen - suggested places would be appreciated
And I'm crossing my fingers for some rarities to be around then!
I'd also like to study the songs of Mangrove Cuckoo and Spot-breasted Oriole before arriving, but these songs are not on my Peterson's Bird Songs tapes. Any suggestions for tapes to buy that have these songs?
Many thanks -
