During the past week or two a Red Bellied Woodpecker, male I believe, has been visiting my nest box. He visits mainly in the morning. It will land just below the entrance hole, drill around the front of the box (which sounds like a machine gun), briefly looks inside the box a few times and then leaves. Depending on the day this behavior is repeated one to five times. I have a feeder and suet nearby which he(they)frequent. To those familiar with Red Bellied Woodpeckers...What are the chances this box will be used as a nesting site as spring rapidly approaches?
