According to _Identification Guide to North American Birds Part 1_ (Peter Pyle), young birds have flight feathers that are edged buff or cinnamon from August-January. The secondaries and rectrices (tail feathers) are also edged rufous during this time period. As the feathers have more wear, these colors will wear off.
