Looks like things are starting to kick in for migration at Green Cay now. Over the past week or two, I started seeing a few warblers here and there, and now it's picking up. This past Saturday and Monday, I spotted the first painted buntings of the season - two males were enjoying the feeders at the isolated metal hut off the main trail. By the chickee hut, lots of blue-grey gnatcatchers, lots of yellow-throated warblers, several American redstarts, two ovenbirds, brown thrashers, downy & red-bellied woodpeckers galore, one black and white warbler, several prairie warblers, one of what looked to be a blue-headed vireo (didn't get a good look at him, but have a photo to blow up and enhance to try to confirm when I load my photos).
The swamphens have a new batch of babies again - they really do breed quickly - I think this is the 3rd batch of chicks in the past year and a half and they've pretty well fully taken root there. Beautiful black-bellied whistling ducklings there as well...they are so cute. Hawk activity is up - lots of red-shouldered hawks hanging about - at least 4.
