How often do Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have primaries as long as a Black-chinned? Many say that looking at the wingtips is a certain way to separate the two. Here is a post from John Boyd back in September of a male Ruby-throated:

You can see the primaries are very pointed, knife like as someone mentioned. In Trey's pictures, the Ruby-throated has fairly broad wingtips.


I may have more questions to come. This is a good learning experience for me.
