There is a great article by Stuart Pimm, Luke Dollar, and Sonny Bass regarding the genetic rescue of the Florida panther, here´s the link

in which the authors describe how the introduction of Texas cougars has been a success. They also mention that prior to the reintroduction the FL panther had physiological abnormalities including the kinked tail. There are also nice range maps showing how the cats have expanded their range.
