This from "The Birdlife of Florida" (Stevenson and Anderson 1994:186):
"The widespread race C. v. virginianus is the form that ranges across n Florida;the dark C. v. floridanus ranges from 'near Gainesville and Anastasia Island' southward (AOU 1957). With the frequent infusion of bobwhites from Texas and Mexico, many Florida birds today are not typical of either of the above subspecies."
The "infusion" refers to birds imported by hunting camps and others.
