The terns are doing well at Parkland area mentioned below. Counted 6 maturing and in-flight babies. The FW signs are still up but the yellow tape just can't compete with the wind and rain every afternoon. FFG needs a supply of better material. The infrastructure people have been quite nice about access. I used a Audubon membership card and a driver license for ident. The colony shows about 55 birds and now, from a distance, it is difficult to say whether that is 1/2 the total or the whole colony with only eggs and chicks on the ground. Fish crows/crows? are in a predatory mode and stalking the area as is a Great blue Heron.

Additionally, there are several killdeer nests nearby but of course not in colony formation. The turned ground, sand excavation and random weed growth is simply outstanding nesting area for killdeer. Instead of grass "parks" maybe builders ought to leave several shell-sand areas as a dedicated park area.

If wishes were horses beggars would ride!

And of some interest, I measured a 10'' clam/oyster shell that looked very old. It was in a sand dump taken from about 1 mile away and trucked in for fill.
