Having worked at Crandon Park for several years, I learned that it's typically good during migration when Bill Bagg's is on fire. The birds seem to funnel to the south end of the island and not much makes it into Crandon - with the exception of shorebirds. That's not to say I haven't seen good birds in the gardens or along the trails in the Bear Cut Preserve (Crandon Park North Beach). The best spot in the gardens in my opinion was the area near the statue crocodiles. It seemed to draw nice variety even though birds can be found around the whole area.
