Does anyone know why the four, now quite large ducklings would stay with the un-banded male? Yesterday, the adult male/female (banded) Wood Ducks were seen by themselves---no ducklings or second male Wood Duck in sight. Today, I saw the four ducklings with the un-banded male but no sighting of the banded adult pair. Last week, when I saw the whole group together, the ducklings seemed to stay more with the un-banded male rather than the adult pair. Even when they all came on land, the ducklings huddled with the same male. However, when swimming, the whole group stayed together.
